How to Paint a Ceiling

Painting a ceiling is a task that anyone can do with the proper technique. It is one of the more common and fun home repair activities you can embark on. Painting is a good upgrade that can dramatically improve your home value. Some individuals do not like the elevation, but with the proper tools anyone can embark on this home improvement journey.

Here are the supplies you will generally need to paint a ceiling:

· Paint, Primer

· Drop cloth

· Painter tape

· Roller, roller trays

· Sponges and cloths

· Stepladder

Before you paint, be sure to remove all furniture or most of the furniture from the room you plan to pain in, as this will make it easier for you to get around in. Then, apply the drop cloths to the remaining furniture. If you are just painting the ceiling, you can use painter’s tape where the wall meets the ceiling to protect the walls. You should also use painter’s tape to protect any moldings on the ceiling.

Next, apply primer. This will help provide a protective barrier and allow you to use one coat of paint in most cases.

Using a stepladder you can usually paint a 2-3” line along the edge of the ceiling. Then you can begin painting the ceiling using your roller. If you paint while your cut-line is still wet, you will reduce the amount of lines you can see in your ceiling.

When using a roller you should fill your roller tray with paint, and apply the roller over the paint until your nap is covered. You don’t want to submerge the roller, but glide it back and forth in the shallow part until you have enough paint but not dripping pain.

You can apply an extension pole to your roller so your roller can reach the ceiling. You can go over the ceiling using controlled, straight lines.
